So, from what I noticed, there seems to be a disturbing lack of anime/manga otaku on campus. Granted, there is an anime club (and they all went to Katsucon (but I couldn't go because I had a dance performance that exact weekend)), but it seems that the general consensus is that anime simply does not occupy the larger portion of the average student's time as say Grey's Anatomy and partying do.
However, I did end up going to a few interesting lectures about the future of animation (Susan Napier apparently claims that animation is going to be the new medium of the 21st century, as movies were for the 20th century...) and the emergence and marketing of the manga industry in the United States in the past 20 or so years. However, judging from the dearth of undergraduate students in that latter lecture, I'm starting to believe that most students just don't care about going to lectures that aren't mandatory. (Although, from the attitudes of the older professors who also attended that lecture, it seems as though a significant portion of academia view it as somewhat of an affront and present danger to the diversity and individuality of America. Which probably is a good point, seeing as how it seems like we're getting more collective and socialist as time passes).
I will ramble more as lunch ends.
